(2). Hisham bin Urwah narrates from his father, who said: When setting out for the Battle of Badr, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) left Sayyiduna Uthman and Sayyiduna Usamah bin Zayd (may Allah be pleased with them both) behind to nurse Sayyidah Ruqayyah (may Allah be pleased with her), because she was ill. When Zayd bin Harithah (may Allah be pleased with him) came on the she-camel al-Adba' with the glad tidings of victory, Sayyidah Ruqayyah had already passed away. We heard the commotion, and by Allah! we did not believe the glad tidings of victory until we saw the captives (with our own eyes).

Hadith Takhrij«
Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Grading: This hadith is "hasan li-ghayrihi" (sound due to supporting evidence). Technical note / Defect ('illah): All its narrators are thiqah (trustworthy), but it is "mursal". Abu Salamah is Musa bin Isma'il al-Tabudhaki. Details of the narration: Imam al-Bukhari narrated it in "al-Tarikh al-Awsat" (54) from Musa bin Isma'il al-Tabudhaki, with this chain. Details of the narration: 'Amr bin 'Asim al-Kilabi differed from him (see al-Bayhaqi, al-Sunan 9/174, Dala'il al-Nubuwwah 3/130-131). He narrated it as "mawsul" (connected) by way of Hammad bin Salamah, from Hisham bin 'Urwah, from his father, from Usamah bin Zayd (i.e. he mentioned Usamah). Technical note / Defect ('illah): 'Amr bin 'Asim is not very strong, whereas Musa al-Tabudhaki (of the previous narration) is far more reliable than him. Details of the narration: Imam al-Bukhari narrated it in "al-Tarikh al-Awsat" (57) from 'Ubayd bin Isma'il al-Habbari, from Abu Usamah Hammad bin Usamah, from Hisham, from his father, from 'A'ishah (may Allah be pleased with her). Note / Clarification: Its editor pointed out that 'A'ishah is not mentioned in two manuscripts of "al-Tarikh", and in our view that is correct. (7029). Corroborating chains and supporting reports: It is supported by the mursal narration of 'Abd Allah bin Abi Bakr bin Hazm, which has passed at number (5025), and by the mursal narration of al-Zuhri, which will come shortly at number (7029).
