قال: وحدثني عبد الرحمن بن أبي الزناد، عن هشام بن عروة، عن أبيه: أنَّ الوليد بن عبد الملك كتب إليه يسأله: هل تزوّج رسول الله ﷺ أختَ الأشعث بن قيس؟ فقال: ما تزوجها رسول الله ﷺ قَطُّ، ولا تزوّج كنديةٌ إلَّا أختَ بني الجَوْن، فمَلَكَها، فلما أتي بها وقَدِمَتِ المدينة نظر إليها فطلقها، ولم يبن بها (5).
Hisham bin Urwah narrates from his father that al-Walid bin Abd al-Malik wrote to him asking: Did the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) marry the sister of al-Ash'ath bin Qays? He replied: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) never married her, and he (peace and blessings be upon him) did not marry any Kindi woman except that sister of Banu al-Jawn. He (peace and blessings be upon him) became her husband (that is, he contracted the marriage), but when she was brought and reached Madinah, he (peace and blessings be upon him) looked at her and divorced her, and did not consummate the marriage with her.
