It is narrated from the Mother of the Believers, Sayyidah Juwayriyah bint al-Harith (may Allah be pleased with her), that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) came to her and asked: "Is there anything to eat?" She said: By Allah, O Messenger of Allah, we have nothing to eat except a bone of a sheep that was given to my freed slave-woman as charity. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Bring it near, for it has now reached its lawful place."
This hadith is sahih (authentic) on the condition of the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim), and they did not record it.

(1) إسناده صحيح. Grading: Its chain is "sahih". وأخرجه أحمد 45/ (27424)، ومسلم (1073)، وابن حبان (5117) من طرق عن الليث بن سعد، بهذا الإسناد. فاستدراك الحاكم له ذهولٌ منه. Reference / Source: Ahmad (45/ 27424), Muslim (1073) and Ibn Hibban (5117) narrated it through various routes from al-Layth bin Sa'd with this same chain. Note / Clarification: So al-Hakim's including it as a supplement (istidrak) is an oversight on his part. وأخرجه أحمد (45/ 27420)، ومسلم (1073)، وابن حبان (5118) من طريق سفيان بن عيينة، عن الزهريّ، به. Reference / Source: Also Ahmad (45/ 27420), Muslim (1073) and Ibn Hibban (5118) narrated it by way of Sufyan bin 'Uyaynah from al-Zuhri. وفسره الحميدي في "مسنده" (319) بقوله: يعني ليس هي الآن صدقة. Note / Clarification: Al-Humaydi explained it in his "Musnad" (319), saying: That is, it is no longer sadaqah (charity/zakat property).
