أخبرني عبد الله بن إسحاق بن إبراهيم الخُراساني العَدْل ببغداد، حدّثنا إبراهيم بن الهيثم البَلَديّ، حدَّثني إسماعيل بن أبي أُويس المدنيّ، حدَّثني أبي، عن يحيى بن سعيد، عن عَمْرة، عن عائشة قالت: قال رسول الله ﷺ لأزواجه: "أسرعُكنَّ لُحوقًا بي أطولُكن يدًا"، قالت عائشة: فكُنَّا إذا اجتمعنا في بيت إحدانا بعدَ وفاةِ رسولِ الله ﷺ نمدُّ أيديَنا في الجِدار نتطاول، فلم نزل نفعلُ ذلك حتى تُوفِّيَت زينبُ بنت جحش زوجُ النبيِّ ﷺ، وكانت امرأةً قصيرةً ولم تكن أطولَنا، فعرفنا حينئذٍ أنَّ النبيّ ﷺ إنما أراد بطول اليد الصدقةَ، قالت (1): وكانت زينبُ امرأةً صَناعةَ اليدِ فكانت تدبُغُ وتخرُز وتصدَّقُ في سبيل الله ﷿ (2).
هذا حديث صحيح على شرط مسلم، ولم يُخرجاه.

It is narrated from Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said to his wives: "The first of you to join me will be the one with the longest hand." Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) says: After the death of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), whenever we gathered in the house of one of us, we would place our hands against the wall and compare their length with one another. We kept doing this until Sayyidah Zaynab bint Jahsh (may Allah be pleased with her) passed away. She was a short woman and was not the tallest of us. Then we understood that by the length of the hand the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) had meant charity. Sayyidah Aishah says: "Sayyidah Zaynab (may Allah be pleased with her) was skilled with her hands; she would tan leather and sew, and give it away in charity in the path of Allah."
This hadith is sahih (authentic) on the condition of Muslim, but the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim) did not record it.

Technical note / Defect ('illah): In our manuscripts the word "qalat" was corrupted into "qala", whereas the speaker is 'A'ishah.
(2) حديث صحيح، وهذا إسناد حسن في المتابعات والشواهد من أجل إسماعيل بن أبي أويس وأبيه، واسمه عبد الله بن عبد الله.
Grading: The hadith is "sahih", and this chain is "hasan" in corroborations and supporting reports (al-mutaba'at wa al-shawahid).
Technical note / Defect ('illah): The chain is (only) hasan because of Isma'il bin Abi Uways and his father, whose name is 'Abd Allah bin 'Abd Allah.
وأخرجه أبو نعيم في "معرفة الصحابة" (7421) عن محمد بن أحمد بن عليّ، عن إبراهيم البلدي، بهذا الإسناد.
Reference / Source: Abu Nu'aym narrated it in "Ma'rifat al-Sahabah" (7421) from Muhammad bin Ahmad bin 'Ali, from Ibrahim al-Baladi, with this same chain.
وأخرجه ابن سعد في "الطبقات" 10/ 105، وابن أبي عاصم في "الآحاد والمثاني" (3086)، والبزار في مسنده (18/ 276) و (311)، والطحاوي في "شرح مشكل الآثار" (210)، والطبراني في "الكبير" (24/ 133) - وعنه أبو نعيم في "الحلية" 2/ 534 - من طرق عن إسماعيل بن أبي أويس، به.

وأخرجه ابن سعد 10/ 105 عن الواقديّ، عن موسى بن محمد بن عبد الرحمن بن عبد الله بن حارثة بن النعمان، عن أبيه، عن أمه عمرة، عن عائشة قالت: يرَحِمَهُ اللهُ زينب بنت جحش لقد نالت في هذه الدنيا الشرف الذي لا يبلغه شرف: إنَّ الله زوجها نبيه ﷺ في الدنيا ونطق به القرآن، وإنَّ رسول الله ﷺ قال لنا ونحن حوله: "أسرعُكن بي لحوقًا أطولكن باعًا" فبشرها رسول الله ﷺ بسرعة لحوقها به، وهي زوجته في الجنة. موسى بن محمد معروف النسب مجهول الحال؛ لم نقف له على ترجمة.
Reference / Source: Ibn Sa'd (10/ 105) narrated it from al-Waqidi, from Musa bin Muhammad bin 'Abd al-Rahman bin 'Abd Allah bin Harithah bin al-Nu'man, from his father, from his mother 'Amrah, that 'A'ishah said: "May Allah have mercy on Zaynab bint Jahsh; she attained in this world an honour that no other honour reaches: Allah married her to His Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) in this world and the Qur'an announced it. And the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said to us while we were around him: 'The quickest of you to join me will be the one with the longest arm.' So the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) gave her the glad tidings that she would soon join him, and she is his wife in Paradise."
Technical note / Defect ('illah): The lineage of Musa bin Muhammad is known, but he is "majhul al-hal" (of unknown condition); we found no biography of him.
وأخرجه بنحوه مسلم (2452)، وابن حبان (3314) و (6665) من طريق عائشة بنت طلحة، عن عائشة به. وأخرجه أحمد (41/ 24899)، والبخاري (1420)، والنسائي (2333)، وابن حبان (3315) من طريق الشعبيّ، عن مسروق، عن عائشة. لكن وقع في هذه الرواية مكان زينب سودة. وانظر تعليق الحافظ ابن حجر عليها في "الفتح" 5/ 56 - 60.
Reference / Source: Muslim (2452) and Ibn Hibban (3314, 6665) narrated something similar by way of 'A'ishah bint Talhah from 'A'ishah. Also Ahmad (41/ 24899), al-Bukhari (1420), al-Nasa'i (2333) and Ibn Hibban (3315) narrated it by way of al-Sha'bi from Masruq from 'A'ishah, but in this narration Sawdah is mentioned in place of Zaynab. See al-Hafiz Ibn Hajar's comment on this in "Fath al-Bari" (5/ 56-60).
