Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): (2) In the manuscripts his name had been inverted into "Muhammad bin Ahmad", although the author (al-Hakim) has narrated from him in several places in this book, and he is another teacher of his, other than Abu Bakr Ahmad bin Muhammad bin Balawayh.
Grading: (3) Its chain is "da'if". Yahya bin Abd al-Hamid al-Himmani is "da'if", though he has been corroborated.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): The narration of Jarir (bin Abd al-Hamid) from Ata' bin al-Sa'ib is from after his "ikhtilat" (deterioration of memory). Moreover, Ata' was inconsistent (idtirab) about the name of the Mother of the Believers, as will come. Further, "Ibn Sa'id" is unnamed (mubham), and we have not found anyone among the sons of Sa'id who narrated except Hisham. Al-Hafiz Ibn Hajar gave his biography in "al-Ta'jil" (1137) and said: Al-Bukhari mentioned him without mentioning any criticism of him, and Ibn Hibban mentioned him in "al-Thiqat".
Reference / Source: It was narrated by al-Bukhari in "al-Tarikh al-Awsat" (1/ 707) via Abu Awanah, from Ata', from Muharib bin Dithar, from Ibn Sa'id bin Zayd bin Amr bin Nufayl: Mu'awiyah sent Marwan in Madinah to take the pledge of allegiance for Yazid. He said: (Not) until Sa'id, the chief of the people of the town, comes. Then a Syrian came while I was with my father, and he said: I will come. Then the Mother of the Believers died - I think it was Maymunah - and she left instructions that Sa'id bin Zayd should lead the funeral prayer. So (in this narration) he made the deceased Maymunah.
Reference / Source: It was narrated by al-Bayhaqi in "al-Sunan" (4/ 29) via Abu Hamzah al-Sukkari, from Ata' bin al-Sa'ib, from Muharib bin Dithar, who said: The Mother of the Believers died - I think it was Maymunah (may Allah be pleased with her) - and she left instructions that Sa'id bin Zayd should lead the funeral prayer over her.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): Al-Bayhaqi said: Sufyan al-Thawri narrated it from Ata' bin al-Sa'ib, from Muharib bin Dithar: that Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her) left instructions that someone other than the imam (the governor) should lead the funeral prayer over her; and this is more authentic.
Reference / Source: It was narrated by al-Baghawi in "Mu'jam al-Sahabah" (963) from Wahb bin Baqiyyah, from Khalid bin Abd Allah, from Ata' bin al-Sa'ib, from Muharib bin Dithar, from Ibn Sa'id bin Zayd bin Amr bin Nufayl, who said: Mu'awiyah wrote to Marwan in Madinah to take the pledge of allegiance for his son Yazid, (and he mentioned the report). He said: And the Mother of the Believers died - I think it was Zaynab - and she left instructions that Sa'id bin Zayd should lead the funeral prayer over her. The Syrian said: What keeps you from praying over the Mother of the Believers? He said: I am waiting for the man whose neck you wanted to strike, for she left instructions that he should lead the prayer over her. The Syrian said: I seek Allah's forgiveness.
Reference / Source: It was narrated by Ibn Abi Shaybah (3/ 285), al-Baghawi in "Mu'jam al-Sahabah" (964), Ibn al-Mundhir in "al-Awsat" (3065), Ibn Abd al-Barr in "al-Isti'ab" (p. 942) and Ibn Asakir in "Tarikh Dimashq" (21/ 89) via various routes from Jarir bin Abd al-Hamid alone, from Ata' bin al-Sa'ib, from Muharib bin Dithar, who said: When Umm Salamah died, she had left instructions that Sa'id bin Zayd should lead the funeral prayer over her, and the governor of Madinah at that time was Marwan. (Ibn Sa'id is not in this chain.)
Technical note / Defect ('illah): Al-Dhahabi said in "Siyar A'lam al-Nubala'" (2/ 208): This is "munqati'", and Sa'id had died years before her; perhaps she left the instruction at some time, then recovered, and he preceded her (in death). It is narrated that Abu Hurayrah led the funeral prayer over her, but it is not established, for he died before her. Ibn Hajar said something similar in "al-Isabah" (8/ 152).
Note / Clarification: We say: Abu Hurayrah's leading the funeral prayer over her has just passed in the comment on report (6916).
