أخبرني أبو بكر محمد بن أحمد بن بالَوَيهِ، حَدَّثَنَا عبد الله بن أحمد بن حنبل، حدَّثني أبيّ، حَدَّثَنَا عبد الرزاق، أخبرنا ابن جُريج، أخبرني حَبيب بن أبي ثابت، أنَّ عبد الحميد بن [أبي] عمرو والقاسم بن محمد أخبراه، أنهما سمعا أبا بكر بن عبد الرحمن بن الحارث بن هشام يُخبر، أنَّ أمَّ سلمة زوجَ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ أخبرتهم: أنها ابنةُ أبي أُمية بن المغيرة فكذَّبوها، وقالوا: ما أكذب الغريبَ! حتَّى أنشأ ناسٌ إلى الحجَّ، فقيل لها: تكتبينَ إلى أهلك؟ فكتبَتْ معهم، فازدادوا لها كرامةً. قالت أمِّ سلمة: فلما وضعتُ زينب تزوَّجني رسولُ الله ﷺ (1).

It is narrated from Abu Bakr bin Abd al-Rahman that the Mother of the Believers Sayyidah Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her) told the people that she was the daughter of Abu Umayyah bin al-Mughirah (a chief of Makkah), but they disbelieved her and said (mockingly): "How the traveller lies!" Then, when some people were setting out for Hajj, she was asked: Will you write a letter to your family? She sent a letter with them, and (after it was confirmed) her honour in the people's hearts increased. Sayyidah Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her) said: "After I gave birth to Zaynab, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) married me."

(1) إسناده محتمل للتحسين، عبد الحميد بن عبد الله بن أبي عمرو والقاسم بن محمد - وهو ابن عبد الرحمن بن الحارث بن هشام المخزومي - تفرَّد بالرواية عنهما حبيب بن أبي ثابت، وذكرهما ابن حبان في "الثقات"، فيتقوى أحدهما بالآخر.
Grading: (1) This chain can possibly be graded "hasan". Abd al-Hamid bin Abd Allah bin Abi Amr and al-Qasim bin Muhammad (Ibn Abd al-Rahman bin al-Harith bin Hisham al-Makhzumi): Habib bin Abi Thabit is alone in narrating from both of them, and Ibn Hibban mentioned both of them in "al-Thiqat", so each of them is strengthened by the other.
وأخرجه مطولًا بأوضح ممّا هنا أحمد (44/ 26619) و (26620)، والنسائي (8877)، وابن حبان (4065) من طرق عن ابن جريج، بهذا الإسناد.
Reference / Source: It was narrated by Ahmad (44/ 26619, 26620), al-Nasa'i (8877) and Ibn Hibban (4065) via various routes from Ibn Jurayj, with this chain, at length and in clearer wording than here.
