Mustadrak al-Hakim — Hadith 6920

It is narrated from Shahr bin Hawshab that he said: I came to Sayyidah Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her) to offer condolences on the martyrdom of Sayyiduna Husayn bin Ali (may Allah be pleased with them both).

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): (2) In the manuscripts this name had been corrupted and written as "Ubayd Allah".

Technical note / Defect ('illah): (3) In the manuscripts this name had been corrupted and written as "Abd Allah".

Grading: (4) This chain can possibly be graded "hasan". More than one narrator narrated from Ahmad bin Mihran - who is Ibn Khalid al-Asbahani - and Ibn Hibban listed him in "al-Thiqat". Regarding Isma'il bin Nashit, Abu Hatim al-Razi said (as in "al-Jarh wa al-Ta'dil" 2/ 202): He is not strong, an unknown shaykh. Abu Zur'ah said: He is "saduq" (truthful).
Technical note / Defect ('illah): Al-Hafiz al-Dhahabi followed up on al-Hakim, saying: In "Sahih Muslim" (2882) (it is reported) that Abd Allah bin Safwan entered upon Umm Salamah during the caliphate of Yazid bin Mu'awiyah. That is, this is more authentic than the report that al-Hakim brought as evidence for the lateness of Umm Salamah's (may Allah be pleased with her) death (showing she was alive into Yazid's era). This hadith of Muslim will come with the author under number (8526).
