Mustadrak al-Hakim — Hadith 674

Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) saw me urinating standing and said: "O Umar! Do not urinate standing." After that I never urinated standing.

Hadith Grading
Hadith Takhrij «
Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Grading: Its chain is da'if because the narrator Abd al-Karim bin Abi al-Mukhariq in it is weak.
Reference / Source: Ibn Majah (308) narrated it from Muhammad bin Yahya (who is al-Dhuhli), from Abd al-Razzaq bin Hammam al-San'ani, with this same chain.
Details of the narration: Immediately after hadith number (656), this statement of Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) has already passed with a sahih chain: "I have not urinated standing since I accepted Islam."

Technical note / Defect ('illah): This probably refers to the hadith of Harun bin Harun bin Abd Allah bin al-Hudayr, which he narrated from al-A'raj (Abd al-Rahman bin Hurmuz) from Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) as marfu': "Four things are part of coarseness (harshness / ill manners): a man urinating standing up, etc."
Reference / Source: Ibn Adi narrated this in "al-Kamil fi al-Du'afa'" 7/ 125, and through him al-Bayhaqi in "al-Sunan" 2/ 286.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): The hadith scholars agree on the 'lin' (i.e. weakness in narration) of its narrator Harun (bin Harun).
