Mustadrak al-Hakim — Hadith 668

Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "When the ablution of one of you is broken during his prayer, let him hold his nose and withdraw from there."
This hadith is sahih (authentic) on the condition of Imam Bukhari and Imam Muslim, but the two Shaykhs did not record it.

Grading: This hadith is sahih, and this chain is hasan because of Muhammad bin al-Faraj al-Azraq.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): There is a disagreement among those narrating from Hisham bin Urwah as to whether it is mawsul (with a connected chain) or mursal, the details of which are in the commentary on "Sunan Abi Dawud" (1114), where it is narrated through the chain of Ibrahim bin al-Hasan al-Missisi from Hajjaj bin Muhammad.
Reference / Source: Ibn Majah (1222) and (1222 M) and Ibn Hibban (2238) narrated it through two routes from Hisham bin Urwah. For more detail see the next narration; it will also come with the author (al-Hakim) at numbers (971) and (972), via Umar bin Ali al-Muqaddami.
