أخبرني أحمد بن محمد بن سَلَمة العَنَزي، حدثنا عثمان بن سعيد (4) الدارِمي، حدثنا عبد الله بن صالح، حدثني يحيى بن أيوب، عن عُبيد الله بن زَحْر، عن أبي إسحاق الهَمْداني عن المُستَورِد بن شدَّاد، أنَّ رسول الله ﷺ عنهما قال: "ما مَثَلُ الدنيا في الآخرةِ إلَّا كما يُدخِلُ رجلٌ إصبَعَه البحرَ، فبِمَ تَرجِعُ؟ " (1). ذكرُ خُفَاف بن إيماءَ بن رَحَضَةَ ﵄

It is narrated from Sayyiduna al-Mustawrid bin Shaddad (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The likeness of this world compared to the Hereafter is only like a man who puts his finger into the sea, and then sees how much (water) it comes back with."

Technical note / Defect ('illah): In manuscripts (S) and (M) the word has been corrupted into "Sa'd".
(1) حديث صحيح، وهذا إسناد حسن في المتابعات والشواهد من أجل عبد الله بن صالح وعبيد الله ابن زحر، وقد روي هذا الحديث من وجه صحيح عن المستورد، فانظر ما سيأتي عند المصنف برقم (8096) من طريق قيس بن أبي حازم عن المستورد.
Grading: This hadith is sahih, and this particular chain is "hasan" in corroborations and supporting reports because of 'Abd Allah bin Salih and 'Ubayd Allah bin Zahr.
Important point: This hadith is also narrated from al-Mustawrid (may Allah be pleased with him) through another sahih chain, which will come later with the author (al-Hakim) at number (8096) through the chain of Qays bin Abi Hazim from al-Mustawrid.
يحيى بن أيوب: هو الغافقي المصري، وأبو إسحاق: هو عمرو بن عبد الله السبيعي.
Important point: Yahya bin Ayyub in the chain is "al-Ghafiqi al-Misri", and Abu Ishaq is "'Amr bin 'Abd Allah al-Sabi'i".
وأخرجه الطبراني في "الكبير" 20/ (731) و "الأوسط" (8707) عن مطلّب بن شعيب الأزدي، عن عبد الله بن صالح، بهذا الإسناد.
Reference / Source: Al-Tabarani recorded it in "al-Mu'jam al-Kabir" 20/ (731) and "al-Mu'jam al-Awsat" (8707) through the chain of Muttalib bin Shu'ayb al-Azdi from 'Abd Allah bin Salih, by this same route.
