Sayyiduna Jabir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates from Sayyiduna al-Nu'man bin Qawqal (may Allah be pleased with him) that he came to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: "O Messenger of Allah! What do you think: if I offer the obligatory prayers, fast in Ramadan, treat the lawful as lawful and do nothing more than that, will I enter Paradise?" He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Yes." He said: "By Allah! I will not add even the slightest thing to that."

Grading: This hadith is "sahih". Technical note / Defect ('illah): Its chain has weakness because of the poor memory of 'Abd Allah bin Lahi'ah, but he is corroborated (mutaba'ah). Important point: Abu Isma'il is Muhammad bin Isma'il al-Sulami al-Tirmidhi, and Abu al-Zubayr is Muhammad bin Muslim bin Tadrus al-Makki. Reference / Source: Imam Ahmad narrated it at (14747) with the chain of Ibn Lahi'ah from Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him), that al-Nu'man bin Qawqal came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). Important point: This is in fact the hadith of Jabir, which relates the story of al-Nu'man's question. Reference / Source: Imam Muslim also narrated it in his "Sahih" (15, 18) by way of Ma'qil bin 'Ubayd Allah al-Jazari from Abu al-Zubayr. Reference / Source: Imam Ahmad 22 / (14394) and Imam Muslim in his Sahih (15, 16, 17) narrated it with the chain of al-A'mash from Abu Sufyan Talhah bin Nafi' from Jabir, that al-Nu'man bin Qawqal came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). Note / Clarification: In the second place Imam Muslim also mentioned Abu Salih al-Samman together with Abu Sufyan (as corroboration). Corroborating chains and supporting reports: On this subject there is also a narration from Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him), found in Sahih al-Bukhari (1397) and Sahih Muslim (14). Reference / Source: This narration is also in "Musnad Ahmad" 14 / (8515); for further supporting reports refer there.
