أخبرني أبو جعفر محمد بن صالح، حدثنا محمد بن شاذانَ، حدثنا إسحاق بن إبراهيم، أخبرنا إسماعيل ابن عُلَيَّة، عن الجُرَيري، عن أبي نَضْرة قال: قلنا لأبي سعيد: إنك تحدِّثُنا بأحاديثَ مُعجِبةٍ، وإنا نخافُ أن نزيدّ أو نَنقُصَ، فلو كتبناها، قال: لن أُكتِبَكُموه (2)، ولن نجعلَه قرآنًا، ولكن احفَظُوا عنَّا كما حَفِظْنا. ثم قال مرة أخرى: خُذُوا عنّا كما أخَذْنا عن رسول الله ﷺ (3).
It is narrated from Abu Nadrah that we said to Sayyiduna Abu Sa'id al-Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him): "You narrate to us very impressive hadiths, and we fear that we may add or omit something (when narrating them), so if only we could write them down." He said: "I will never have you write them, nor will we make it (a written book) like the Qur'an; rather, memorize from us just as we memorized." Then on another occasion he said: "Take (the hadiths) from us just as we took them from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)."

(2) في (ب): لن أكسموه، وسقطت هذه اللفظ من (ص) و (م)، والصواب ما أثبتناه، وهو موافق لما في مصدر التخريج. Technical note / Defect ('illah): (2) In manuscript (B) it is "lan aksamuhu", and this word has dropped out of manuscripts (S) and (M); the correct reading is what we have established, and it agrees with the sources of the takhrij.
(3) إسناده صحيح. إسحاق بن إبراهيم: هو ابن راهويه، والجريري: هو سعيد بن إياس، وأبو نضرة: هو المنذر بن مالك. Grading: (3) Its chain is sahih. Ishaq bin Ibrahim is Ibn Rahawayh, al-Jurayri is Sa'id bin Iyas, and Abu Nadrah is al-Mundhir bin Malik. وأخرجه أبو خيثمة زهير بن حرب في "العلم" (95)، ومن طريقه الخطيب في "تقييد العلم" ص 38 عن إسماعيل بن إبراهيم ابن علية، بهذا الإسناد. Reference / Source: It was narrated by Abu Khaythamah Zuhayr bin Harb in his book "al-'Ilm" (95), and via him by al-Khatib al-Baghdadi in "Taqyid al-'Ilm" (p. 38), from Isma'il bin Ibrahim bin 'Ulayyah (known as Ibn 'Ulayyah), with this chain. وأخرجه الدارمي (487)، والبيهقي في "المدخل إلى السنن الكبرى" (726)، وابن عبد البر في "جامع بيان العلم" (340)، والخطيب في "التقييد" ص 38 من طرق عن الجريري، به.
