Mustadrak al-Hakim — Hadith 6519

Rafi' bin Khadij bin Rafi' bin Adi, al-Ansari al-Awsi, took part with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) in the Battles of Uhud, the Trench and all the other battles. On the day of Uhud he was struck by an arrow in his collarbone, and the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said to him: "If you wish, I will pull out the arrow but leave its head (the front part of the arrow) inside, and I will testify for you on the Day of Resurrection that you are a martyr." So Rafi' left it inside in order to gain the blessing of this saying of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). For a long time he felt nothing of it, and when he laughed heartily it (the arrowhead) would become visible. Then, during the caliphate of Sayyiduna Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him), the wound reopened and he died of it.
