Mustadrak al-Hakim — Hadith 6516

It is narrated from Nafi' that he said: Had you seen Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) following the traces and footsteps of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) so intensely, you would certainly have said (seeing the depth of his devotion): This man is mad.

Hadith Grading
Hadith Takhrij «
Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): In the manuscripts the name here has been corrupted into "Anas".

Grading: Its chain is extremely weak because of Kharijah bin Mus'ab al-Khurasani, for he is an abandoned (matruk) narrator.
Corroborating chains and supporting reports: In place of this weak narration, the narration of Ibn Hibban (4074) suffices, narrated via 'Ubayd Allah bin 'Umar from Nafi', who said: "Ibn 'Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) used to follow the traces (footsteps) of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), and wherever the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) had stopped, he too would stop there."
