Mustadrak al-Hakim — Hadith 6438

أخبرنا الشيخ أبو بكر بن إسحاق، أخبرنا علي بن عبد العزيز، حدثنا أحمد بن عبد الله بن يونس، حدثنا زهير بن معاوية حدثنا عبد الله بن عثمان بن خُثَيم، حدثني أبو الطُّفيل: أنه رأى معاويةَ يطوفُ بالكعبة وعن يساره عبدُ الله بن عبّاس وأنا أَتلُوهما في ظُهورهما أسمعُ كلامَهما، فطَفِقَ معاويةُ يستلمُ رُكنَي الحِجْر، فيقول له ابن عبّاس: إنَّ رسولَ الله ﷺ لم يكن يستلمُ هذين الرُّكنَين، فيقول معاوية: يا ابنَ عبّاس، فإنه ليس شيءٌ منها مهجورًا، فطَفِقَ ابنُ عبّاس لا يَذَرُه كلَّما وَضَعَ يده على شيء من الرُّكنين إلَّا قال له ذلك ابنُ عبّاس (1).
هذا حديث صحيح الإسناد، ولم يُخرجاه.

Abu al-Tufayl narrates that he saw Sayyiduna Mu'awiyah (may Allah be pleased with him) performing tawaf of the Ka'bah, with Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) on his left, and I was walking behind them listening to their conversation. Sayyiduna Mu'awiyah (may Allah be pleased with him) began to touch the two corners on the side of the Hatim (the Iraqi corner and the Syrian corner) as well. So Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) said to him: "The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) did not touch these two corners." Sayyiduna Mu'awiyah (may Allah be pleased with him) replied: "O Ibn Abbas, no part of the House of Allah is to be abandoned (mahjur)." But Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) did not let it go, and whenever Sayyiduna Mu'awiyah (may Allah be pleased with him) placed his hand on either of those two corners, Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) said the same thing to him.
This hadith has an authentic chain (sahih al-isnad), but the two Shaykhs did not record it.

(1) إسناده قوي من أجل ابن خثيم. أبو الطفيل: هو عامر بن واثلة، صحابي صغير.
Grading: The chain is qawi (strong) because of Ibn Khuthaym ('Abd Allah bin 'Uthman).
Technical note / Defect ('illah): Abu al-Tufayl refers to 'Amir bin Wathilah, who is one of the younger Companions.
وأخرجه أحمد 4 / (2210) عن حسن بن موسى، عن أبي خيثمة زهير بن معاوية، بهذا الإسناد.
Reference / Source: Imam Ahmad narrated it in the Musnad (4/ 2210) via Hasan bin Musa, from Abu Khaythamah Zuhayr bin Mu'awiyah, with this same chain.
وأخرجه أحمد 5/ 3074، والترمذي (858) من طريق سفيان الثوري ومعمر، عن ابن خثيم، به.
Reference / Source: Imam Ahmad (5/ 3074) and Imam al-Tirmidhi (858) narrated it through the routes of Sufyan al-Thawri and Ma'mar bin Rashid, from Ibn Khuthaym.
وأخرجه أحمد 5/ (3532)، ومسلم (1269) من طريق قتادة، عن أبي الطفيل. ورواية مسلم مختصرة.
Reference / Source: Imam Ahmad (5/ 3532) and Imam Muslim (1269) narrated it through the route of Qatadah from Abu al-Tufayl.
