Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates that in the blessed time of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), a man was wounded and then had a wet dream. He took a ritual bath and died. When this news reached the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "They killed him, may Allah destroy them! Was not the cure for ignorance to ask?"
Bishr bin Bakr is trustworthy and reliable, and this hadith is sahih (authentic) on the condition of the two Shaykhs.

Grading: This hadith is hasan, but this chain is weak because it is broken (inqita'). Technical note / Defect ('illah): The mention of an explicit form of hearing (sighat al-tahdith) between al-Awza'i and Ata' is an error (wahm), perhaps from Bishr bin Bakr, about whom Maslamah bin Qasim said that he narrated things from al-Awza'i that he alone narrated. (337). Technical note / Defect ('illah): A group of thiqah narrators contradicted him and narrated it from al-Awza'i with the words "It reached me from Ata'" (balaghani an Ata'); among them are al-Walid bin Mazyad, as will come later with the author (al-Hakim), Abu al-Mughirah Abd al-Quddus bin al-Hajjaj (Ahmad 5/ 3056), and Muhammad bin Shu'ayb bin Shabur (Abu Dawud 337). Reference / Source: Ibn Majah (572) recorded it via Abd al-Hamid bin Abi al-Ishrin, from al-Awza'i, from Ata', with it, and did not mention any hearing between them either. (594). Important point: The best report on this subject from Ata' is the one that already passed with the author at number (594). Note / Clarification: "Al-'iyy" means ignorance.
