Mussah al-Azdiyyah narrates: I performed Hajj and went to Sayyidah Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her) and said: "O Mother of the Believers, Sayyiduna Samurah bin Jundub (may Allah be pleased with him) orders women to make up the prayers missed during the days of menstruation." She said: "They should not make them up. Any woman among the wives of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) who was in postnatal bleeding would remain (from prayer) for forty nights, and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) did not order her to make up the prayers of the postnatal period."
This hadith has a sahih (authentic) chain, and there is also a supporting report for it.

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Grading: Because of Mussah al-Azdiyyah, its chain can possibly be graded hasan, if Allah wills. Technical note / Defect ('illah): Abu al-Muwajjih is Muhammad bin Amr al-Fazari, and Abdan is Abd Allah bin Uthman al-Marwazi. Reference / Source: Abu Dawud recorded it (312) via Muhammad bin Hatim, from Ibn al-Mubarak, with this chain. Technical note / Defect ('illah): The words in it "from the women of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him)" are apparently an error (wahm) of Yunus bin Nafi', who narrates it from Abu Sahl, since the scholars have stated that he makes mistakes. Ibn al-Qattan, in "al-Wahm wa al-Iham" (3/ 329), described this text as munkar, because none of the wives of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) had postnatal bleeding (nifas) while married to him except Khadijah (may Allah be pleased with her), whose marriage was before the Hijrah. Important point: So the statement can only mean women of his household other than his wives, such as his daughters and female relatives, or his concubine Mariyah (may Allah be pleased with her).
