It is narrated from Sayyiduna Sa'd (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said: On the day I accepted Islam, Allah Almighty had not yet made the prayers obligatory.
Muhammad bin Umar (al-Waqidi) says that he took part with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) in the Battles of Badr and Uhud. On the day of Uhud, when the people fell back, he stood firm with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). He also took part in the Battle of the Trench, al-Hudaybiyah, Khaybar and the Conquest of Makkah, and on that day one of the three banners of the Muhajirun was with him. He took part in all the battles with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), and he was one of the renowned archers among the Companions of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him).

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Grading: Its chain is weak. Technical note / Defect ('illah): First, there is inqita' between Muhajir bin Mismar and Sa'd; second, Abu Bakr bin Isma'il is majhul, and only al-Waqidi narrated from him; and al-Waqidi himself is mutakallam fihi (a criticised narrator). 20/ 299. Reference / Source: Ibn Sa'd narrated it from al-Waqidi in "al-Tabaqat" (3/ 129), and through him Ibn Asakir (20/ 299). (6236). Note / Clarification: See also the hadith coming later at number (6236).
