It is narrated from al-Zubayr bin Bakkar that when death drew near to Sayyiduna Makhramah bin Nawfal (may Allah be pleased with him), his daughter began to weep over him and said: "Alas, my dear father! You were very gentle and kind-hearted." At this he regained consciousness and asked: "Who is this wailing woman?" The people said: "Your daughter." He said: "Come near." When she came, he said: "One like me is not mourned in this way. Rather, say: 'Alas, my dear father, who was most courageous, of powerful build, and a strong refuge.'"

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): It is like this in our manuscripts, and in some it is read as 'Aba Hisnan'. In the Mahmudiyyah manuscript it is 'Aban 'Asiyyan', and this agrees with "Tarikh Dimashq" (57/ 161), where it is narrated with the chain Ahmad bin Sulayman al-Tusi from al-Zubayr bin Bakkar from Mus'ab bin 'Uthman. Grading: This chain is 'mu'dal', because Mus'ab bin 'Uthman (who is a Zubayri) did not live in the time of Makhramah bin Nawfal. Note / Clarification: 'Al-shayzami' means a young man who is tall and strongly built.
