Technical note / Defect ('illah): Our manuscripts have "Yazid bin Abi Hazim", which is wrong; the correct form is what we have established from the sources of the takhrij and the books of biography (namely Yazid bin Hazim). He is the brother of Jarir bin Hazim.
Grading: Its chain is sahih. Reference / Source: Imam al-Bukhari narrated it in "al-Tarikh al-Kabir" (4/ 42) and "al-Tarikh al-Awsat" (1/ 587) via Sulayman bin Harb with this same chain. Reference / Source: Hasan bin Musa al-Ashyab narrated it in his 'Juz'' (49), Ibn Sa'd in 'al-Tabaqat' (4/ 327), Hilal al-Haffar in his 'Juz'' (41) and Ibn 'Asakir in 'Tarikh Dimashq' (12/ 433 and 65/ 145) through several routes from Hammad bin Zayd. Note / Clarification: 'Sadalaha' means: he let it hang down or let it hang loose.
