(4). Umarah bin Ukaymah al-Laythi narrates from Sayyiduna Hakim bin Hizam (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said: "I saw myself on the day of the Battle of Badr when a black striped cloak (like a cloud) came down from the sky into the valley and covered the horizon, and then suddenly the valley was filled (with an army) like ants. It occurred to my heart that this was something from the heavens by which Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) had been aided. Then there was nothing but the defeat (of the idolaters), and it was the angels."

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Important point: In the manuscripts this has been distorted to "Buhayr"; the correct name is "A'idh bin Yahya", from whom al-Waqidi narrated abundantly in his "Maghazi".
Important point: In the manuscripts this has been distorted to "bukhar"; according to al-Waqidi's "Maghazi" and other sources, the correct word is "bijad". Note / Clarification: "Bijad" refers to a striped blanket or wrap.
Important point: In the manuscripts this has been distorted to "ma'an" (water); according to the sources of takhrij, the correct word is "bi'anan" (a piece of cloud or dust).
Grading: Its chain is weak. Technical note / Defect ('illah): Muhammad bin Umar al-Waqidi is alone in narrating it, and his solitary narrations are not relied upon; moreover, his shaykh A'idh bin Yahya is "majhul", and there is disagreement about the reliability of Abu al-Huwayrith (Abd al-Rahman bin Mu'awiyah al-Zuraqi). 1/ 80. Reference / Source: This account is in "Maghazi al-Waqidi" (1/80). Reference / Source: Al-Bayhaqi narrated it in "Dala'il al-Nubuwwah" (3/61) via al-Hakim, with this same chain. Grading: Its chain is "hasan". Corroborating chains and supporting reports: A similar narration is also reported from Jubayr bin Mut'im (may Allah be pleased with him): before the defeat, during the battle, he saw something like a black wrap descending from the sky, resembling black ants, and he was certain they were angels, right after which the enemy was defeated.
