It is narrated from al-Ma'mari that he said: I heard Abu Bakr bin Abi Shaybah saying: The name of Sayyiduna Abd al-Rahman bin Abi Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) (in the time of Ignorance) was Abd al-Uzza, so the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) changed his name to Abd al-Rahman. His kunyah was Abu Muhammad. He was present at the conquest of Damascus, and Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) granted him, as a reward, Layla, the daughter of al-Judi, the king of Damascus, as he was in love with her.

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Important point: The word "akhbarana" is missing from manuscripts (S) and (M), while it is present in manuscript (B). Al-Ma'mari is al-Hasan bin Ali bin Shabib.
Important point: In the manuscripts the wording here has been distorted to "fa-naffalathu 'ammatuhu" (his paternal aunt gave it to him as a spoil); the correct wording, corrected according to the sources of takhrij, is in the text.
Reference / Source: The story of Abd al-Rahman bin Abi Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) was narrated at length and in abridged form by Sa'id bin Mansur in "al-Sunan" (2707), Ibn Shabbah in "Tarikh al-Madinah" (3/849) and Ibn Asakir in "Tarikh Dimashq" (70/57-58), via Abd al-Rahman bin Abi al-Zinad, from Hisham bin Urwah, from his father, from Aishah. Reference / Source: Ibn Asakir (35/33-34) and Ibn al-Jawzi in "Dhamm al-Hawa" (p. 655) also narrated it via Abd al-Rahman bin Abi al-Zinad, but they did not mention Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her); rather, they transmitted it from Urwah directly as an incident of Umar bin al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him). Reference / Source: Abu al-Qasim al-Baghawi narrated it in "Mu'jam al-Sahabah" (4/414-415) via Zuhayr bin Muhammad al-Marwazi from Mus'ab bin Abdullah al-Zubayri. Note / Clarification: His story will come in detail in the next report, via Yahya bin Yahya al-Ghassani from Urwah bin al-Zubayr; however, in it the one who granted the spoil was Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him), not Umar (may Allah be pleased with him).
