It is narrated from Muhammad bin al-Munkadir that he said: No one from among the Companions of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) came to Basrah who was superior (in rank, knowledge and virtue) to Sayyiduna Imran bin Husayn (may Allah be pleased with him).

Technical note / Defect ('illah): With the author (al-Hakim) here, this is reported as a statement of Muhammad bin al-Munkadir, but no one else agrees with the author on this. The correct position is that this statement, with this same chain, is from Muhammad bin Sirin, not from Muhammad bin al-Munkadir.
Reference / Source: It was narrated by Ibn Sa'd (5/ 191), Ibn al-Jawzi in "al-Muntazam" (5/ 253) and Imam al-Tabarani in "al-Kabir" (18/ 190) through the route of 'Arim bin al-Fadl from Hammad bin Zayd from Hisham bin Hassan, from Muhammad bin Sirin, and its chain is "sahih".
