Sayyiduna Qasim bin Muhammad narrates: We were with Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) when her food was brought. Qasim bin Muhammad stood up to pray, so Sayyidah Aishah said: I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say: "There is no prayer in the presence of food, nor when a person is pressed by an urgent need to urinate or defecate."

Explanation & Benefits

40 / (24166). Grading: Its chain is sahih. Technical note / Defect ('illah): Here in the author's (al-Hakim's) text the narrator's name is recorded as "'Abd Allah bin Abi Bakr bin Muhammad bin 'Amr bin Hazm", which is an error; the correct position is that this 'Abd Allah is from the descendants of Abu Bakr (al-Siddiq), as explained in Musnad Ahmad 40/(24166). Reference / Source: Imam Ahmad (24449), Muslim (560), Abu Dawud (89) and Ibn Hibban (2073) narrated this hadith via the chain of Abu Hazrah (Ya'qub bin Mujahid) from 'Abd Allah. Note / Clarification: "Al-akhbathan" (the two foul things) refers to urine and faeces.
