Reference / Source: In the book "Futuh Misr" by 'Abd al-Rahman bin 'Abd Allah bin 'Abd al-Hakam (p. 133), this statement of al-Layth bin Sa'd is reported by way of Sa'id bin 'Ufayr:
Details of the narration: The description of 'Amr bin al-'As (may Allah be pleased with him) was that he was short, with a large head, a prominent forehead, a wide mouth and a big beard. He was broad between the shoulders and had large hands and feet. Sa'id bin 'Ufayr narrated it in this way as a statement of al-Layth bin Sa'd.
Corroborating chains and supporting reports: That 'Amr bin al-'As was short is also established from the hadith of Abu Musa al-Ash'ari (may Allah be pleased with him) in which the story of his going to the Negus is mentioned.
Reference / Source: Ibn Abi Shaybah narrated it in his "al-Musannaf" (vol. 14, pp. 346-347), and other hadith scholars with a "sahih chain".

Corroborating chains and supporting reports: That 'Amr bin al-'As was short is established from the hadith of Abu Musa al-Ash'ari (the incident of the Negus), which Ibn Abi Shaybah (14/ 346-347) and others narrated with a sahih chain.
Linguistic research: The word "al-dahdah" means: a short person who is fat, or whose belly is large and thick.
