It is narrated from Sayyiduna Amr bin al-As (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said: "I set out towards the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) with the intention of accepting Islam, and on the way I met Khalid bin al-Walid (may Allah be pleased with him). This was before the Conquest of Makkah, and he was coming from Makkah. I asked: O Abu Sulayman! Where are you heading? He replied: By Allah! The right way has now become fully clear, and indeed that man is a true Prophet of Allah. By Allah! I am going to accept Islam; how long (will we go on refusing)? I said: By Allah! I too have come out only to accept Islam. So we came to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). First Khalid bin al-Walid (may Allah be pleased with him) stepped forward, accepted Islam and pledged allegiance; then I drew near and pledged allegiance, and then I returned."

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Technical note: In our manuscripts the kunyah particle (the word "Abi") had dropped out; we corrected it and entered it here from the narration of Abu 'Abd Allah al-Hakim in Imam al-Bayhaqi's "Dala'il al-Nubuwwah" (vol. 4, p. 346), since the same chain is found there too. Details of the narration: This word is also established in the narration of Ziyad al-Bakka'i from Ibn Ishaq (which has passed under hadith number 5377). Although some other narrators from Ibn Ishaq mentioned this man's name as "Habib bin Aws" (without the kunyah particle), in the narration of Yunus bin Bukayr this kunyah is present, as in that of Ziyad al-Bakka'i.
Technical note: The name "Habib bin Abi Aws" had dropped out of our manuscripts; we restored it from Imam al-Bayhaqi's narration in "Dala'il al-Nubuwwah" (from al-Hakim). Moreover, this name is established in all the other narrations of this report from Ibn Ishaq.
Technical note: In all our manuscripts this word was distorted into "li-yuhasibani" (so that he may call me to account); it was corrected from the narration of Ziyad al-Bakka'i from Ibn Ishaq (hadith number 5377). In the Mahmudiyyah manuscript (al-Mayman edition) the word is found here in its correct form.
(5377). Grading: This report is "hasan", as its explanation has passed under hadith number (5377).
