فحدثني محمد بن يعقوب الحافظ، أخبرنا محمد بن إسحاق الثَّقَفي، أخبرني أبو يونس (5)، أخبرني إبراهيم بن المنذر، قال: عمرو بن العاص بن وائل قَدِمَ على رسول الله ﷺ سنةَ ثمانٍ، يكنى أبا عبد الله، وتُوفِّي بمصر يومَ الفِطر سنةَ اثنتين وأربعين، وهو والٍ عليها.
It is narrated from Ibrahim bin al-Mundhir that Sayyiduna Amr bin al-As bin Wa'il (may Allah be pleased with him) came to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) in the year 8 AH. His kunyah was Abu Abdullah, and he passed away in Egypt on the day of Eid al-Fitr in the year 42 AH, while he was its governor.

(5) وقع في نسخنا الخطية: أبو يحيى، وهو خطأ صوّبناه من سائر المواضع التي نقل فيها المصنفُ عن إبراهيم بن المنذر ما يتعلّق بوفيات الصحابة. وأبو يُونس هذا: هو محمد بن أحمد بن يزيد بن عبد الله مفتي المدينة.
Technical note: In the manuscripts available to us, (the narrator's name) was written here as "Abu Yahya", which is an error. We corrected it with the help of the other places where the author (al-Hakim) reports, by way of Ibrahim bin al-Mundhir, matters relating to the death dates of the Companions.
Identification of the narrator: The "Abu Yunus" mentioned here is in fact "Muhammad bin Ahmad bin Yazid bin 'Abd Allah", who was the mufti of Madinah.
