(3). It is narrated from Qatadah that when the time of death drew near for Sayyiduna Amr bin al-As (may Allah be pleased with him), he said: "Measure my wealth." So it was measured and came to fifty-two mudd. He said: "Who will take it with all its liabilities? Would that it were dung!" The narrator says: One mudd was sixteen uqiyah, and one uqiyah was equal to two makkuk. Sayyiduna Amr bin al-As (may Allah be pleased with him) passed away on the day of Eid al-Fitr at the age of ninety-four. His son Sayyiduna Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) led his funeral prayer, and he was buried at al-Muqattam (Egypt) in the year 43 AH. After that Sayyiduna Mu'awiyah (may Allah be pleased with him) appointed his brother Utbah bin Abi Sufyan as governor of Egypt and its surrounding regions.

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Note / Clarification: His words "bima fihi" we have established from al-Dhahabi's "Talkhis" and from the Mahmudiyyah manuscript (as in the al-Mayman edition); they do not occur in the rest of our manuscripts.
29. Note / Clarification: In our manuscripts this name was distorted into "'Anbasah". 'Anbasah and 'Utbah are both brothers of Mu'awiyah, but the one who became governor of Egypt was "'Utbah", not "'Anbasah". See "Kitab al-Wulah wa Kitab al-Qudah" by Muhammad bin Yusuf al-Kindi al-Misri (p. 29).
Grading: There is no harm in its narrators, but it is "mursal"; Qatadah did not meet 'Amr bin al-'As. Technical note / Defect ('illah): Abu Hilal al-Rasibi is Muhammad bin Sulaym. Note / Clarification: "al-Muqattam": a mountain located east of Cairo, overlooking "al-Qarafah" (the cemetery of al-Fustat).
