Mustadrak al-Hakim — Hadith 6022

It is narrated from Muhammad bin Umar (al-Waqidi) that the kunyah of Sayyiduna Amr bin al-As bin Wa'il bin Hashim bin Su'ayd bin Sahm (may Allah be pleased with him) was Abu Abdullah. His mother was al-Nabighah bint Khuzaymah, a captive woman from the tribe of Anazah. Among his maternal siblings were Amr bin Uthathah bin Abbad bin al-Muttalib bin Abd Manaf bin Qusayy and Arnab bint Afif bin Abi al-As bin Umayyah bin Abd Shams. There is a difference of opinion about the time of his death.

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Note / Clarification: In our manuscripts this name was distorted into "Harmalah bin Shaybah"; it was corrected from "Tabaqat Ibn Sa'd" (5/ 47).
Note / Clarification: A comment on this name has passed just recently.

Note / Clarification: Manuscripts (Z) and (B) have "'Abd al-Muttalib", while the established text is taken from (S) and (M), and that is correct.

Note / Clarification: The text between the square brackets had dropped out of our manuscripts, and we supplied it from "Tabaqat Ibn Sa'd" (5/ 47). See Mus'ab al-Zubayri's "Nasab Quraysh" (p. 381) and Ibn Hazm's "Jamharat Ansab al-'Arab" (p. 163). And 'Afif was al-Nabighah's husband; see "al-Muhabbar" by Muhammad bin Habib (p. 451).
