(1). It is narrated from Sayyiduna Rafi' bin Amr al-Ghifari (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said: When I was still a boy, I used to throw stones at the palm trees of the Ansar to bring down dates. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) saw me and asked: "O boy! Why do you throw stones at the date palms?" I said: To eat. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Do not throw stones at the trees; rather, eat those that have fallen underneath." Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) passed his hand over my head and supplicated: 'Allahumma ashbi' batnahu' (O Allah, fill his stomach).

Grading: It is hasan by virtue of what comes after it, and this chain can possibly be graded hasan. Technical note / Defect ('illah): But an error (wahm) occurred in the author's chain in two places. The first is in the naming of Mu'tamir bin Sulayman's teacher, where he said "a son of al-Hakam bin 'Amr", whereas he is the son of Abu al-Hakam bin al-Hakam (perhaps this is figurative, since attribution to a grandfather is valid). Sallam bin Miskin named him 'Abd al-Kabir, so he is 'Abd al-Kabir bin Abi al-Hakam bin al-Hakam bin 'Amr al-Ghifari. The other error is the dropping of the mention of 'Abd al-Kabir's grandmother, who told him this hadith from his father's paternal uncle Rafi' bin 'Amr. The chain came thus in Musaddad's "Musnad", as in al-Busiri's "Ithaf al-Khiyarah al-Maharah" (3658/ 1); Mu'adh bin al-Muthanna likewise narrated it from Musaddad in al-Tabarani's "al-Kabir" (4459); and the group of Mu'tamir bin Sulayman's students narrated it likewise. If that is established, this grandmother of 'Abd al-Kabir is a Tabi'i woman with no known criticism, so her hadith can possibly be graded hasan; and Ibn Hibban mentioned 'Abd al-Kabir in "al-Thiqat". Reference / Source: Ahmad (33/ 20343) recorded it; Abu Dawud (2622) from 'Uthman and Abu Bakr, the two sons of Abu Shaybah; and Ibn Majah (2299) from Muhammad bin al-Sabbah and Ya'qub bin Humayd bin Kasib; all five (Ahmad, the two sons of Abu Shaybah, Muhammad bin al-Sabbah and Ya'qub) from Mu'tamir bin Sulayman, from Ibn Abi al-Hakam, from his grandmother, from his father's paternal uncle Rafi' bin 'Amr.
