Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Grading: Its narrators are acceptable, but Muhammad bin Abi al-Sari al-'Asqalani, although saduq (truthful), was described as making many mistakes, and he was contradicted in this report in naming the Ghifari, as will come.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): Sulayman is Ibn Tarkhan al-Taymi, and Abu Hajib is Sawadah bin 'Asim al-'Anazi.
Reference / Source: Al-Tabarani recorded it in "al-Kabir" (3158) from Yahya bin 'Uthman, with this chain. Ibn Battah al-'Ukbari recorded it in "al-Ibanah" (2/ 580) by several routes from Abu al-Ash'ath Ahmad bin al-Miqdam al-'Ijli, from Mu'tamir bin Sulayman, from Mu'alla bin Jabir, from 'Udaysah bint Uhban bin Sayfi al-Ghifari, who said: 'Ali bin Abi Talib came to her father in Basrah and said: "Will you not come out with us, O so-and-so? You are the most deserving of those who stand up in this matter." He said: "I will not come out with you; for I heard my close friend and your cousin, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), say: 'When you see the like of what you are in, take a sword of wood.'"
Grading: Al-Dhahabi described Abu al-Ash'ath in "al-Siyar" (12/ 219) as "the precise hafiz" (al-hafiz al-mutqin). A group of hadith masters narrated from Mu'alla bin Jabir, Ibn Hibban declared him thiqah, and he is corroborated.
Reference / Source: For Ahmad (34/ 20670 and 20671, and 45/ 27199, 27200 and 27201), Ibn Majah (3960) and al-Tirmidhi (2203) recorded it by several routes from 'Udaysah daughter of Uhban bin Sayfi, from her father, like the narration of Abu al-Ash'ath. Al-Tirmidhi said: hasan gharib.
