It is narrated from Muhammad bin Umar (al-Waqidi) that Sayyiduna al-Hakam bin Amr bin Mujadda' (may Allah be pleased with him) was from the descendants of Tha'labah, the brother of Ghifar bin Mulayl. He remained in the company of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) until his passing, then he moved to Basrah and settled there. Then Ziyad bin Abi Sufyan appointed him governor of Khurasan, and he remained there until he passed away there (in Khurasan) in the year 50 AH.

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Note / Clarification: Likewise it came in our manuscripts that in the narration of Muhammad bin 'Umar al-Waqidi it is "Tha'labah", and that is the view of Ibn Sa'd, the scribe of al-Waqidi, as Ibn Makula reported from him in "al-Ikmal" (2/ 119). But in the printed "Tabaqat Ibn Sa'd" (5/ 116, and 9/ 27 and 370) it is "Nu'aylah" in place of Tha'labah. Allah Most High knows best.
