Mustadrak al-Hakim — Hadith 5923

It is narrated concerning Sayyiduna Uthman bin Talhah bin Abi Talhah bin Abd al-Uzza bin Uthman bin Abd al-Dar (may Allah be pleased with him) that his mother was the daughter of Sa'd bin Shuhayd of Banu Amr bin Awf, from the people of Quba'. He embraced Islam at the same time as Sayyiduna Amr bin al-As and Sayyiduna Khalid bin al-Walid (may Allah be pleased with them both), and he passed away in Makkah in the year 42 AH.

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Note / Clarification: In our manuscripts this name is corrupted into "Sa'id". The correction is from the books of genealogy, history and biography. See "Sirat Ibn Hisham" (2/62 and 171), "Tabaqat Ibn Sa'd" (2/52 and 5/15), Mus'ab al-Zubayri's "Nasab Quraysh" (p. 252), and others.

Note / Clarification: In manuscripts (Z) and (B) it is corrupted into "Sumayyah", and in (S) and (M) into "Hamnah". The correction is from the books on similar-looking names (al-mushtabih) and the books of genealogy and biography. See al-Daraqutni's "al-Mu'talif wa al-Mukhtalif" (3/1427), Ibn Makula's "al-Ikmal" (5/90), and others.

Note / Clarification: Our manuscripts read "three" (thalath), which is a mistake. The adopted correct reading is as it originally was in (Z), after which the copyist struck it out, even though it is the correct reading, in agreement with what is in "Tabaqat Khalifah" (p. 14).
