Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Note / Clarification: This was not in our manuscripts; we included it to set the context right, as it is established in Ibn Abi al-Dunya's "al-Uzlah wa al-Infirad" (114).

Grading: Its chain is weak; the condition of Abd Allah bin Shumayt and the narrators above him is unknown (majhul).
Reference / Source: Ibn Abi al-Dunya narrated it in "al-Uzlah wa al-Infirad" (114), Ibn Mandah in "Fath al-Bab fi al-Kuna wa al-Alqab" (4027) and al-Lalaka'i in "Karamat al-Awliya'" (a supplement to "Usul al-I'tiqad") (61), by various routes from Abd Allah bin Isa al-Tufawi, from Ubayd Allah (in the diminutive form) bin Shumayt, with this same chain. Ibn Mandah did not quote its wording.
Reference / Source: Abu Nu'aym narrated it in "Hilyat al-Awliya'" (2/ 84) by way of Haytham bin Jarmuz, from Hamdan, from Sulayman al-Taymi, from Aslam al-Ijli, in the same way. Al-Haytham is "majhul" (unknown), and we could not identify his shaykh.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): Abd Allah bin al-Mubarak asked al-Mu'tamir bin Sulayman al-Taymi about this report, which is narrated from his father (Sulayman) about the meeting of Harim and Uways al-Qarani, and al-Mu'tamir said: "It is not from my father's hadith." Al-Uqayli transmitted this with a chain from Ibn al-Mubarak in "al-Du'afa'" (1/ 315).
Reference / Source: Ibn Asakir (9/ 426-427) narrated it by way of Abu Hudhayfah Ishaq bin Bishr al-Bukhari, from Ya'qub, from Abd Allah bin Sulayman, from Abu al-Dahhak al-Jarmi, from Harim bin Hayyan.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): Abu Hudhayfah is "matruk al-hadith" (abandoned in hadith) and accused (of lying), and we could not identify his shaykh nor his shaykh's shaykh.
Reference / Source: It was narrated at length and in abridged form by Ibn Sa'd (8/ 280 and 1319), Ibn Abi al-Dunya in "al-Uzlah wa al-Infirad" (206), Abd Allah bin Ahmad in his additions (zawa'id) to his father's "al-Zuhd" (2014) and Ibn Asakir (9/ 448), by way of Sayf bin Harun al-Burjumi, from Mansur bin Muslim bin Sabur, from an elder of Banu Haram, from Harim bin Hayyan.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): Sayf is "da'if al-hadith" (weak in hadith) and of no standing; his shaykh is "majhul" (unknown), and his shaykh's shaykh is "mubham" (unnamed).
Reference / Source: Ibn Abi Khaythamah narrated it in the third volume (al-sifr al-thalith) of his "Tarikh" (4544), Abu al-Abbas al-Mustaghfiri in "Dala'il al-Nubuwwah" (490-498), Ibn Asakir (9/ 431-432) and Ibn Qudamah al-Maqdisi in "al-Mutahabbin fi Allah" (127), by way of Yahya bin Sa'id al-Attar, from Yazid bin Ata' al-Wasiti, from Alqamah bin Marthad, who said: Harim bin Hayyan said.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): Yahya bin Sa'id al-Attar is of no standing; he narrates munkar (objectionable) reports, and Ibn Hibban accused him of fabrication. His shaykh Yazid bin Ata' is also weak and "layyin al-hadith" (soft in hadith).
Reference / Source: Ibn Hibban narrated it in "al-Majruhin" (2/ 298), Ibn Asakir in "Tarikh Dimashq" (9/ 435-437) and Ibn al-Jawzi in "al-Mawdu'at" (2/ 43), by way of Muhammad bin Ayyub al-Raqqi, from Malik, from Nafi', from Ibn Umar. Ibn Hibban did not quote its wording.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): Muhammad bin Ayyub was declared weak by Abu Hatim al-Razi, while Ibn Hibban accused him of fabrication, and Ibn al-Jawzi followed him in this.
Reference / Source: Ibn Asakir (9/ 428) narrated it by way of Damrah bin Rabi'ah, from Uthman bin Ata' bin Abi Muslim al-Khurasani, from his father, as "mursal" and in abridged form.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): Uthman bin Ata' is "matruk" (abandoned); indeed, Abu Abd Allah al-Hakim mentioned in "al-Madkhal ila al-Sahih" (117) that he narrates fabricated (mawdu') hadiths from his father.
