Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Note / Clarification: The manuscripts have "awaqan"; this is permissible and used among some Arabs, but the better and more eloquent form is what we have adopted (in the text), as explained at number (2240). In al-Dhahabi's "Talkhis" too it appears in the eloquent form.
Note / Clarification: In manuscripts (Z) and (B) this word is corrupted into "wa-tunfiquna", and in (S) and (M) it is written "wsʿwn" (without dots). The correct text is what we have taken from "Talkhis al-Dhahabi" and al-Bayhaqi's "Dala'il al-Nubuwwah" (2/ 522), who narrated it from al-Hakim.
Note / Clarification: Manuscript (Z) and al-Dhahabi's "Talkhis" have "al-awaq", which is a dialect of some Arabs, while what is in (S) and (M) is better. In manuscript (B) it is corrupted into "al-awraq".
Note / Clarification: This had dropped out of the manuscripts, and we restored it from al-Bayhaqi's "Dala'il al-Nubuwwah"; Ibn Asakir (24/ 227) narrated it by his route. In al-Dhahabi's "Talkhis", after "yatahawwalu minha", there are the words: "meaning Quba'".
Grading: Its chain has softness (lin) because of "Ya'qub bin Muhammad al-Zuhri", whose hadith is weak. As for Zayd bin al-Harish and Husayn bin Hudhayfah, a group narrated from each of them and Ibn Hibban mentioned them in "al-Thiqat", so there is no harm in them. Hudhayfah bin Sayfi, although majhul (unknown), is corroborated by the mention of his brothers. The real issue is the weakness of Ya'qub bin Muhammad, who is alone in bringing the report in this wording, and he has also been contradicted in narrating the report as "mawsul" (connected) with the mention of "Suhayb" (as will come). However, the report is established in general, but not in this wording.
Identification of names: The name of "Abdan al-Ahwazi" is Abd Allah bin Ahmad bin Musa, and "Abdan" is his nickname (laqab).
Reference / Source: Al-Bayhaqi narrated it in "Dala'il al-Nubuwwah" (2/ 522), and by his route Ibn Asakir (24/ 227), from Abu Abd Allah al-Hakim, with this same chain.
Reference / Source: Al-Tabarani narrated it in "al-Mu'jam al-Kabir" (7296), and from him Abu Nu'aym in "Hilyat al-Awliya'" (1/ 152), via Ahmad bin Muhammad al-Mu'ayyini al-Asbahani, from Zayd bin al-Harish.
Reference / Source: Al-Bazzar narrated it in his "Musnad" (2085) via Muhammad bin Ma'mar al-Bahrani, from Ya'qub bin Muhammad.
Details of the narration: This narration is abridged up to his words "I intended to go out with him", and he did not mention in his chain the paternal uncles of Husayn bin Hudhayfah.

Grading: The story of what happened between Suhayb and some young men of Quraysh at the time of his emigration preceded under narration (5805 M), from the narration of Ali bin Zayd bin Jud'an, from Sa'id bin al-Musayyib as "mursal". Its wording is brief and differs from the lengthy narration of Ya'qub bin Muhammad al-Zuhri, which he alone brings here. Although Ali bin Zayd is weak, the wording he gives has "supporting reports" (shawahid), so it is more sound. And Allah knows best.
