أخبرنا أبو جعفر محمد بن محمد بن عبد الله البغدادي، حدثنا أبو الزِّنْباع رَوْح بن الفَرَج المِصري، حدثنا يوسف بن عَدِيّ، حدثنا بن محمد بن يزيد بن صيفيّ بن صُهيب، عن أبيه [عن أبيه] (2) عن جَدِّه، عن صهيب، قال: لقد صَحِبتُ رسولَ الله ﷺ قبل أن يُوحى إليه (3). صحيح الإسناد، ولم يُخرجاه.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Suhayb (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said: I had already been in the company of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) before revelation came to him.
The chain of this hadith is sahih (authentic), but the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim) did not record it.

(2) سقط من النسخ الخطية واستدركناه من مصادر التخريج وهذه السلسلة قد روي بها خبر آخر كما تقدم تخريجه عند الحديث (5807).
Note / Clarification: This had dropped out of the manuscripts, and we have restored it from the source works. Another report is also narrated through this chain, whose takhrij preceded at hadith number (5807).
(3) محتمل للتحسين إن شاء الله من أجل يوسف بن محمد بن يزيد بن صيفي بن صهيب، فقد تقدَّم الكلام عليه عند (5770)، وقال ابن عدي بعد أن ذكر هذا الخبر وغيره من رواية يوسف بن محمد 7/ 169: يوسف بن محمد يروي عن أبيه عن جده هذه الأحاديث، وهذه تُحتَمل.
Grading: This chain can, Allah willing, be regarded as "hasan" because of Yusuf bin Muhammad bin Yazid bin Sayfi bin Suhayb. Discussion of him preceded at (5770). After mentioning his narrations, Ibn Adi said (7/ 169): "Yusuf narrates these hadiths from his father, from his grandfather, and they are tolerable (acceptable)."
وأخرجه أبو محمد الحسن بن أحمد المَخْلَدي في "الفوائد المنتخبة" بانتخاب أبي عمرو البّحيري (293) - ومن طريقه أخرجه ابن عساكر في "تاريخ دمشق" 24/ 219 - عن أبي بكر محمد بن حمدون بن خالد، عن أبي الزِّنباع رَوح بن الفَرَج، بهذا الإسناد، غير أنه سقط ذكر صيفي من مطبوع ابن عساكر، فيُستدرك من كتاب المَخلدي.
Reference / Source: Abu Muhammad al-Hasan bin Ahmad al-Makhladi narrated it in "al-Fawa'id al-Muntakhabah" (293), and by his route Ibn Asakir in "Tarikh Dimashq" (24/ 219), from Abu Bakr Muhammad bin Hamdun bin Khalid, from Abu al-Zinba' Rawh bin al-Faraj, with this same chain.
Note / Clarification: In the printed edition of Ibn Asakir the mention of "Sayfi" has dropped out, and it should be restored from al-Makhladi's book.
وأخرجه البزار (2103) عن إبراهيم بن عبد الله بن الجنيد، والطبراني في "المعجم الكبير" (7303) ومن طريقه أخرجه الضياء المقدسي في "الأحاديث المختارة" 8/ (70) - عن يحيى بن أيوب العَلّاف المصري، كلاهما عن يوسف بن عدي، به. لكن لفظ رواية البزار: صحبتُ النبي ﷺ قبل أن يدخل المدينة!
Reference / Source: Al-Bazzar (2103) narrated it from Ibrahim bin Abd Allah bin al-Junayd, and al-Tabarani in "al-Mu'jam al-Kabir" (7303) (and by his route al-Diya' al-Maqdisi in "al-Ahadith al-Mukhtarah" (8/ 70)) from Yahya bin Ayyub al-Allaf al-Misri. Both of them narrate from Yusuf bin Adi, with this same chain.
Details of the narration: But the wording of al-Bazzar's narration is: "I accompanied the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) before he entered Madinah!"
وأخرجه ابن عدي في "الكامل" 7/ 169 عن يعقوب بن حميد بن كاسب، عن يوسف بن محمد، به.
