Mustadrak al-Hakim — Hadith 5809

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Suhayb (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said: I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say concerning the first Muhajirun: "They are the foremost, the intercessors, and those who are confident before their Lord. By the One in Whose hand is my soul! They will come on the Day of Resurrection with weapons on their shoulders, and they will knock at the gate of Paradise. The keepers of Paradise will ask them: 'Who are you?' They will say: 'We are the Muhajirun.' The keepers will ask: 'Has your reckoning been taken?' Then they will fall on their knees, empty out their quivers, raise their hands towards the sky and say: 'O our Lord! For what shall we be reckoned? We left everything behind; we left our homes, our wealth and our children!' Then Allah Almighty will make for them wings of gold set with chrysolite and rubies, and they will fly until they enter Paradise. This is the meaning of Allah's saying: 'And they will say: Praise be to Allah, Who has removed from us all grief' [Surah Fatir: 34-35]." Hudhayfah (the narrator) says that Sayfi related that Suhayb said that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "They will know their dwellings in Paradise even better than they knew their homes in this world."
This hadith is gharib (singular) in both its chain and its text. I have mentioned it among the virtues of Suhayb because he is one of the first Muhajirun and its narrators are his own descendants. We have written this hadith only from our Shaykh, the ascetic Abu Amr (may Allah have mercy on him).

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Note / Clarification: The particle "an" (from) has dropped out of our manuscripts, and it must be restored, as the end of the hadith indicates, where Abu Hudhayfah al-Husayn bin Hudhayfah named the men of his chain one by one and said: "Hudhayfah (meaning his father) said, Sayfi said, Suhayb said." This shows that Hudhayfah bin Sayfi bin Suhayb narrated this report from his father Sayfi, from his (Hudhayfah's) grandfather Suhayb, not directly from his grandfather. See the previous number (5803/ 3).

Grading: Its chain is extremely weak.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): In this narration of al-Hakim the narrator's name is given as "Abd Allah bin Muhammad bin Ishaq", which is an error (wahm). The correct name is "Ubayd Allah bin Ishaq bin Muhammad bin Imran bin Musa bin Talhah bin Ubayd Allah", and he is the father of Abd Allah bin Ubayd Allah al-Talhi. The correct name is given in Abu Nu'aym's "Hilyat al-Awliya'" (1/ 156). Concerning Ubayd Allah bin Ishaq, Abu Hatim said in "al-Jarh wa al-Ta'dil" (5/ 308): "He is not strong." And Hudhayfah bin Sayfi is "majhul" (unknown); no one narrated from him except his son Husayn. Al-Dhahabi called it a "lie" in "al-Talkhis" and described its chain as "dark" (muzlim).
