It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whenever two matters were presented to the son of Sumayyah (Ammar), he always chose the more rightly guided of the two."
This hadith is sahih (authentic) on the condition of the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim) if Salim bin Abi al-Ja'd's hearing from Abdullah bin Mas'ud is established, and they did not record it; and it also has a corroborating narration (mutabi') from the hadith of Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her).

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Grading: This hadith is "sahih li-ghayrih" (sahih due to supporting evidence). Technical note / Defect ('illah): All the narrators of this chain are trustworthy (thiqat), but Salim bin Abi al-Ja'd did not meet Abd Allah bin Mas'ud, as a number of scholars have stated with certainty (i.e. it is munqati'). There is also a disagreement in this chain as narrated from Ammar al-Duhni, which al-Daraqutni explained in "al-Ilal" (843 and 3247), and this is another defect. Corroborating chains and supporting reports: However, this hadith is supported by the hadith of A'ishah (may Allah be pleased with her), which comes after it. Identification of names: Abu Kurayb is Muhammad bin al-Ala' bin Kurayb, Ya'qub al-Dawraqi is Ibn Ibrahim, and Sufyan is Sufyan al-Thawri. Reference / Source: Ahmad (6/ 3693 and 7/ 4249) recorded it from Waki' bin al-Jarrah, with this same chain. See the details of the disagreement in its chain there.
