Mustadrak al-Hakim — Hadith 5766

حدثنا أبو العباس محمد بن يعقوب، حدثنا هارون بن سُليمان الأصبَهاني، حدثنا عبد الرحمن بن مَهْدي، عن سفيان. وأخبرنا أبو الحسين محمد بن أحمد بن تَمِيم القَنْطَري، حدثنا أبو قِلابَة، حدثنا أبو عاصم، حدثنا سفيان، عن أبي إسحاق، عن هانئ بن هانئ، عن علي، قال: استأذَنَ عمّارُ بنُ ياسر على النبيِّ ﷺ وأنا عندَه فقال: "ائذَنُوا له" فلما دخل قال رسولُ الله ﷺ: "مَرحبًا بالطَّيِّبِ المُطيَّبِ" (1).
هذا حديث صحيح الإسناد، ولم يُخرجاه.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) that Sayyiduna Ammar bin Yasir (may Allah be pleased with him) sought permission from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) to enter while I was with him (peace and blessings be upon him). He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Give him permission." Then when he entered, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Welcome, O pure one who has been purified!"
The chain of this hadith is sahih (authentic), but the two Shaykhs did not record it.

(1) إسناده حسن من أجل هانئ بن هانئ فهو صدوق حسن الحديث. سفيان: هو ابن سعيد الثوري، وأبو قلابة: هو عبد الملك بن محمد الرَّقّاشي، وأبو عاصم: هو الضحاك بن مخلد، وأبو إسحاق: هو عمرو بن عبد الله السَّبيعي.
Grading: Its chain is "hasan".
Technical note / Defect ('illah): This is because of Hani' bin Hani', who is "saduq" and hasan in hadith. Sufyan is Ibn Sa'id al-Thawri, Abu Qilabah is Abd al-Malik bin Muhammad al-Raqqashi, Abu Asim is al-Dahhak bin Makhlad, and Abu Ishaq is Amr bin Abd Allah al-Sabi'i.
وأخرجه أحمد 2/ (1033)، والترمذي (3798) من طريق عبد الرحمن بن مهدي، بهذا الإسناد.
Reference / Source: Ahmad (2/ 1033) and al-Tirmidhi (3798) recorded it through the route of Abd al-Rahman bin Mahdi, with this same chain.
وقال الترمذي: حديث حسن صحيح.
Grading: Al-Tirmidhi said: This hadith is "hasan sahih".
وأخرجه أحمد (779) و (1079)، وابن ماجه (146)، وابن حبان (7075) من طريق وكيع بن الجراح، عن سفيان الثوري، به. وأخرجه أحمد (999) و (1160) من طريق شعبة بن الحجاج، عن أبي إسحاق، به.
Reference / Source: Ahmad (779 and 1079), Ibn Majah (146) and Ibn Hibban (7075) recorded it through the route of Waki' bin al-Jarrah from Sufyan al-Thawri, with this same chain. Also Ahmad (999 and 1160) narrated it through the route of Shu'bah bin al-Hajjaj from Abu Ishaq, with this same chain.
وأخرج ابن ماجه (147)، وابن حبان (7076) من طريق الأعمش، عن أبي إسحاق، عن هانئ بن هانئ، قال: دخل عمار على عليٍّ، فقال: مرحبًا بالطّيب المُطيّب، سمعت رسول الله ﷺ يقول: "مُلئ عمارٌ إيمانًا إلى مُشاشه". والمُشاش: رؤوس العظام الليّنة.
Reference / Source: Ibn Majah (147) and Ibn Hibban (7076) narrated through the route of al-A'mash, from Abu Ishaq, from Hani' bin Hani', who said: Ammar (may Allah be pleased with him) came to Ali (may Allah be pleased with him), and Ali said: "Welcome to the good (tayyib) and the made-good (mutayyab)! I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say: Ammar is filled with faith up to his 'mushash'."
Note / Clarification: "al-mushash" means the soft ends of the bones (meaning that faith has permeated his whole being).
