أخبرني أحمد بن سَهْل الفقيه ببُخَارَى، أخبرنا صالح بن محمد بن حَبيب الحافظ، حدثنا خَلَف (2) بن سالم، حدثنا يحيى بن آدمَ، عن وكيع بن الجَرّاح، عن أبيه، عن أبي إسحاق، عن مَعْدِي كَرِبَ، قال: خَبّابُ بن الأرتِّ يُكنى أبا عبد الله (3).
It is narrated from Ma'di Karib that the kunyah of Sayyiduna Khabbab bin al-Aratt (may Allah be pleased with him) was Abu Abdullah.

(2) تحرَّف في (ز) و (ب) إلى: خالد، وإنما هو خلف بن سالم المُخرَّمي الحافظ.
Note / Clarification: In manuscripts (Z) and (B) the name has been corrupted and written as "Khalid", whereas the correct name is "Khalaf bin Salim al-Mukharrimi", who is a hadith master (hafiz).
(3) إسناده حسن من أجل الجَرَّاح والد وكيع - وهو الجَرَّاح بن مليح الرُّؤاسي - فهو صدوق. أبو إسحاق: هو عمرو بن عبد الله السَّبيعي، ومَعدي كَرِبَ: هو الهَمْداني المَشْرِقي، وهو تابعيٌّ كبير.
Grading: Its chain is hasan.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): This grading is because of "al-Jarrah" (the father of Waki'), whose full name is al-Jarrah bin Malih al-Ru'asi, and he is a "saduq" (truthful) narrator. The narrator "Abu Ishaq" is Amr bin Abd Allah al-Sabi'i, and "Ma'di Karib" is al-Hamdani al-Mashriqi, who is one of the senior Successors.
