أخبرني عبد الله بن الحسين القاضي بمَرْو، حدثنا الحارث بن أبي أُسامة، حدثنا يزيد بن هارون، أخبرنا مِسعَر بن كِدَام، عن عبد الملك بن مَيْسَرة، عن النّزّال بن سَبْرة، عن أبي مسعود الأنصاري، قال: أُغميَ على حُذيفةَ من أول الليل، ثم أفاقَ فقال: أيُّ الليلِ هذا؟ قلتُ: السَّحَرُ الأعلَى، قال: عائذٌ بالله من جَهَنَّم، مرتَين أو ثلاثًا، ثم قال: ابتاعُوا لي ثَوبَين فكفِّنُوني فيهما، ولا تُغْلُوا عَلَيَّ؛ فإن صاحِبَكم إن يُرْضَ عنه [أُلبِسَ] (1) خيرًا منهما، وإلَّا سُلِبَهُما سَلْبًا سريعًا (2).

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Mas'ud al-Ansari (may Allah be pleased with him) that in the early part of the night Sayyiduna Hudhayfah (may Allah be pleased with him) fell unconscious. Then, when he came to, he asked: "What time of the night is this?" I said: It is the last part of the pre-dawn (sahar). He said two or three times: 'A'idhun billahi min jahannam' (I seek refuge with Allah from Hell). Then he said: "Buy two garments for me and shroud me in them, and do not get an expensive shroud for me. For if your companion is found pleasing (to Allah), he will be clothed in something better than them; otherwise, even these two garments will be snatched from him very quickly."

Note / Clarification: (1) This word had dropped out of our manuscripts; we have established it from the Mahmudiyyah manuscript, as in the al-Mayman edition.
(2) إسناده صحيح.
Grading: (2) Its chain is sahih.
وأخرجه ابن سعد 4/ 257، وأبو سليمان بن زَبْر الربَعي في "وصايا العلماء عند الموت" ص 53، ومن طريقه ابن عساكر 48/ 464 - 465 من طريق يزيد بن هارون، بهذا الإسناد.
Reference / Source: Ibn Sa'd narrated it 4/ 257, Abu Sulayman bin Zabr al-Rab'i in "Wasaya al-'Ulama' 'ind al-Mawt" p. 53, and via his route Ibn 'Asakir 48/ 464 - 465, via the route of Yazid bin Harun, with this same chain.
وأخرجه عبد الرزاق (6211)، وابن أبي الدنيا في "المُحتضَرين" (168)، والرَّبعي ص 53، وابن عساكر 12/ 297 و 48/ 464 - 465 من طرق عن مسعر بن كدام به.
Reference / Source: 'Abd al-Razzaq (6211), Ibn Abi al-Dunya in "al-Muhtadarin" (168), al-Rab'i p. 53, and Ibn 'Asakir 12/ 297 and 48/ 464 - 465 narrated it through various routes from Mis'ar bin Kidam, in the same way.
وأخرجه ابن سعد 4/ 257، والطبراني في "الكبير" (3008) من طريق شعبة، عن عبد الملك بن ميسرة، به.
Reference / Source: Ibn Sa'd narrated it 4/ 257, and al-Tabarani in "al-Kabir" (3008), via the route of Shu'bah, he from 'Abd al-Malik bin Maysarah, in the same way.
