It is narrated from Sufyan bin Uyaynah that Hassan bin Thabit (may Allah be pleased with him) said these verses in praise of Sayyiduna Talhah (may Allah be pleased with him), and he did not except anyone (from the praise): "He stood firm when the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was surrounded (by the enemy), and when all the people had turned their backs and scattered. He was defending the blessed life of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), while the enemy had come right up close to him (peace and blessings be upon him) and was attacking wave after wave. His body was drenched in blood, out of fear that if the enemy turned back saying, 'We must take our revenge,' they would fall upon him again."

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Reference / Source: (1) Ibn 'Asakir narrated in "Tarikh Dimashq" 25/ 105 - 106 via the route of Sulayman bin Ayyub al-Talhi, he from his father, he from his grandfather, he from Musa bin Talhah, and he from his father Talhah. In it he mentioned the poetry said about Talhah on the day of Uhud, including the verses of Hassan bin Thabit about him, but with a wording close to the one here. Grading: And its chain is weak, as has passed.
