It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) that when the war had laid down its burdens, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) expressed pride (in the favour of Allah), while Sayyiduna Talhah (may Allah be pleased with him) and Simak bin Kharashah, that is, Abu Dujanah (may Allah be pleased with him), both remained completely silent. Then the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Indeed, I saw myself on the day of Uhud in such a state that there was no creature on the face of the earth near me except Jibril (peace be upon him), who was on my right, and Talhah (may Allah be pleased with him), who was on my left." About this, these verses were said: "And Talhah, on the day of the mountain pass (of Uhud), consoled and stood by Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) at a time when matters had grown hard and narrow for them. With both his hands he shielded him (peace and blessings be upon him) from the spears, until his fingers were cut beneath the spears and became paralysed. And he was a leader of the people after Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him), who kept the mill of Islam steady (by his firmness) until it had settled firmly."

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Grading: (1) Its chain is very weak (da'if jiddan) on account of Salih bin Musa al-Talhi (Ibn 'Abd Allah bin Ishaq bin Talhah bin 'Ubayd Allah), who is matruk al-hadith (abandoned in hadith). Its marfu' part has also been narrated through another route, but that too is weak. Note / Clarification: 'Umar bin Muhammad al-Asadi refers to "Ibn al-Hasan bin al-Zubayr al-Asadi", and Suhayl refers to "Ibn Abi Salih Dhakwan al-Samman". Reference / Source: Al-Tabarani narrated it in "al-Awsat" (5816) via the route of al-Qa'qa' bin Zakariyya al-Talhi, he from 'Abd Allah bin Idris, he from Talhah bin Yahya, he from 'Isa bin Talhah, and he from Abu Hurayrah, who said: We were talking about the day of Uhud while the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was standing in prayer. When he finished and turned from his prayer, he faced us and said ... He then mentioned the marfu' hadith, without the poetry and without mentioning Abu Dujanah. Technical note / Defect ('illah): This al-Qa'qa' bin Zakariyya is majhul (unknown), and he is alone in narrating it through this route. Details of the narration: This poetry has passed within another narration at number (4357), via the route of Sulayman bin Ayyub, from his father, from his grandfather, from Musa bin Talhah, from Talhah bin 'Ubayd Allah, that Hassan bin Thabit composed these verses in praise of Talhah after the day of Uhud. Grading: And its chain is also weak.
