It is narrated from Talhah bin Musarrif that on the day of the Battle of the Camel, Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) sat down beside (the blessed body of) Sayyiduna Talhah (may Allah be pleased with him), wiped the dust from his head, and then turned to his son Hasan bin Ali (may Allah be pleased with them both) and said: "Would that I had died thirty years before this event!"

Hadith Takhrij «
Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Grading: (1) Its chain is weak because of the weakness of Layth (Ibn Abi Sulaym).
Note / Clarification: Al-Muharibi refers to "'Abd al-Rahman bin Muhammad bin Ziyad".
Reference / Source: Ibn Abi Shaybah narrated it 15/ 269, Ibn Abi al-Dunya in "al-Mutamannin" (98), al-Tabarani in "al-Kabir" (202) and Ibn 'Asakir in "Tarikh Dimashq" 25/ 115, via the route of 'Abd Allah bin Idris, he from Layth bin Abi Sulaym, in the same way.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): However, in the narration of al-Tabarani and Ibn 'Asakir he said "a year" (sanah) instead of "thirty years".
Reference / Source: And Ibn 'Asakir 25/ 114 - 115 narrated something similar via the route of Mujalid bin Sa'id, from al-Sha'bi, in mursal form, without mentioning what 'Ali said to his son al-Hasan.
Details of the narration: A parallel to this story has passed at number (4607), in which 'Ali's words to his son al-Hasan are mentioned, but that was when they saw Muhammad bin Talhah bin 'Ubayd Allah (who was known as al-Sajjad and was killed alongside his father on the day of the Battle of the Camel).
