Mustadrak al-Hakim — Hadith 5682

Ubaydullah bin al-Walid al-Wassafi narrates from his father that when Amr bin Jurmuz martyred Sayyiduna al-Zubayr bin al-Awwam (may Allah be pleased with him), his wife Atikah bint Zayd bin Amr bin Nufayl (may Allah be pleased with her) recited verses (and she was among the eminent women who had emigrated). She was saying: "Ibn Jurmuz betrayed, on the day of the encounter, a great horseman who never fled the battlefield. O Amr! Had you woken him or alerted him, you would have found him such that neither his fingers nor his hand shook. May your mother weep for you! Did you ever in the past overcome anyone like him from among those who come and go morning and evening? How many hard battles did he take part in from which a coward like you could not move him!"
Mention of the virtues of Talhah bin Ubaydullah al-Taymi (may Allah be pleased with him).

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Note / Clarification: (1) In our manuscripts this is corrupted into "al-Rusafi" (with ra'), whereas it is "al-Wassafi", as in the sources for his biography and his father's. It is a nisbah to "Wassaf bin 'Amir al-'Ijli", as al-Bukhari said in his "al-Tarikh al-Kabir" 5/ 402, and the author (al-Hakim) himself also said it in his book "al-Madkhal ila al-Sahih" (100).
Technical note / Defect ('illah): He and his father are both weak.
