Mustadrak al-Hakim — Hadith 5627

Abdullah bin Uthman bin Khuthaym narrates from Isma'il bin Ubayd (in line with the previous hadith). And the hadith of Muslim bin Khalid is as follows:

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Note / Clarification: (1) The name "Abd Allah bin 'Uthman bin Khuthaym" has dropped out of our manuscripts; the correct course is to retain it, as in the author's statement preceding this narration.

Grading: (2) Its chain is "hasan", if Allah wills.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): Isma'il bin 'Ubayd bin Rifa'ah (although no one other than Abd Allah bin 'Uthman bin Khuthaym narrated from him) was mentioned by Ibn Hibban in "al-Thiqat", and Ibn Kathir said in "Jami' al-Masanid" (5685): "There is no harm in its chain". We say: al-Tirmidhi, al-Tusi, Ibn Hibban and al-Diya' al-Maqdisi graded his narrations sahih. This report of his is also narrated from 'Ubadah bin al-Samit through another route, which will come at no. (5629), and before this, its marfu' part has passed from 'Ubadah through a third route, with different wording but the same meaning.
Note / Clarification: Zuhayr is "Ibn Mu'awiyah al-Ju'fi".
Corroborating chains and supporting reports: Al-Dulabi narrated it in "al-Kuna" (5) via Husayn bin 'Ayyash, from Zuhayr bin Mu'awiyah, from Abd Allah bin 'Uthman bin Khuthaym, from Isma'il bin 'Ubayd bin Rifa'ah, from his father, from 'Ubadah (may Allah be pleased with him).
Corroborating chains and supporting reports: Al-Bayhaqi in "al-Madkhal ila al-Sunan al-Kubra" (206) and Abu Isma'il al-Harawi in "Dhamm al-Kalam wa Ahlihi" (625) narrated it via 'Amr bin 'Uthman al-Kilabi, from Zuhayr, from Ibn Khuthaym, from Isma'il bin 'Ubayd bin Rifa'ah, from 'Ubadah.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): Thus 'Amr bin 'Uthman dropped "'Ubayd bin Rifa'ah" from his chain, and 'Amr is a weak narrator.
Corroborating chains and supporting reports: Abd Allah bin Ahmad narrated it in his additions to "al-Musnad" 37/ (22786), Abu Ya'la in "al-Musnad al-Kabir" (as in al-Busiri's "Ithaf al-Khiyarah" 4224/ 2), al-Shashi in his "Musnad" (1258), al-Tabarani in "al-Awsat" (2894), and Ibn 'Asakir in "Tarikh Dimashq" 26/ 197, through various routes from Yahya bin Sulaym al-Ta'ifi. Al-Bazzar also narrated it in his "Musnad" (2731) via Yusuf bin Khalid al-Samti. Both of them (Yahya and Yusuf) narrate it from Abd Allah bin 'Uthman bin Khuthaym, from Isma'il bin 'Ubayd bin Rifa'ah, from his father, from 'Ubadah bin al-Samit.
Corroborating chains and supporting reports: Ahmad (22769) narrated it via Isma'il bin 'Ayyash, from Abd Allah bin 'Uthman bin Khuthaym, from Isma'il bin 'Ubayd, from 'Ubadah.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): Thus Isma'il bin 'Ayyash dropped "'Ubayd bin Rifa'ah" from his chain. Isma'il bin 'Ayyash is "weak" when narrating from people other than the Syrians, and this narration is one of those (non-Syrian ones), since Ibn Khuthaym is from Mecca.
Details of the narration: After this will come a narration via Muslim bin Khalid from Abd Allah bin 'Uthman bin Khuthaym, in which the mention of "'Ubayd bin Rifa'ah" is retained.
