Junadah bin Abi Umayyah narrates from Sayyiduna Ubadah bin al-Samit (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said: When the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) was busy (with other affairs) and a man came having accepted Islam, he (peace and blessings be upon him) would hand him over to one of us so that he would teach him the Qur'an. So the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) handed over to me a man who lived with me in the house, and I used to teach him to recite the Qur'an. He felt that I had a right (a favour) over him, so he gave me a bow as a gift; I had never seen a finer bow, nor one with a better bend. I came to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: "O Messenger of Allah! What do you say about it (the bow)?" He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "It is an ember (of fire) between your shoulders that you have hung on yourself, or put on around your neck."
This hadith has a sahih (authentic) chain of narration, but the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim) did not record it.

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Note / Clarification: (1) In the manuscripts this name has suffered a scribal distortion (tashif) into "Bashshar", while the correct name has been established from al-Dhahabi's "Talkhis al-Mustadrak".
Grading: (2) This chain is "hasan" because of Bishr bin Abd Allah bin Yasar, since he is a saduq (truthful) narrator who is hasan al-hadith. Corroborating chains and supporting reports: Ahmad 37/ (22766) narrated it from Abu al-Mughirah (who is Abd al-Quddus bin al-Hajjaj al-Khawlani) with this same chain. Reference / Source: Abu Dawud (3417) narrated it likewise via Baqiyyah bin al-Walid from Bishr bin Abd Allah. Details of the narration: This same narration has passed earlier under no. (2308) via al-Mughirah bin Ziyad, who narrates from 'Ubadah bin Nusayy, from al-Aswad bin Tha'labah, from 'Ubadah bin al-Samit. Technical note / Defect ('illah): There "al-Aswad bin Tha'labah" is mentioned instead of Junadah bin Abi Umayyah, and al-Mughirah bin Ziyad has some errors (awham). Note / Clarification: The word "al-'itaf" (with kasrah under the 'ayn), which is also said without the alif as "al-'itf", means "siyat al-qaws" (the end of the bow); a bow has two "'itfan" (ends), namely the part that is bent at each of its two extremities.
