Ishaq bin Qabisah bin Dhu'ayb narrates from his father (Qabisah) that Sayyiduna Ubadah bin al-Samit (may Allah be pleased with him) objected to certain things done by Mu'awiyah (may Allah be pleased with him), and said to him: "I will not live with you in this land." So he set off for Madinah. Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) asked him: "What has brought you to me? May Allah Almighty never grant conquest and victory to a land in which you and people like you are not present. Go back; Mu'awiyah has no authority (rule) over you."

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Note / Clarification: In manuscripts (S) and (M) the words here are "la fataha".
Grading: All its narrators are thiqah; however, this narration is in effect "mursal", because Qabisah did not himself witness this incident (as al-Busiri stated explicitly in Misbah al-Zujajah: 6). Corroborating chains and supporting reports: However, 'Ubadah's objection to Mu'awiyah is also established through other sahih routes. Reference / Source: Imam Ibn Majah narrated it (18) with the chain of Hisham bin 'Ammar from Yahya bin Hamzah, with this same chain in detail, mentioning 'Ubadah's objection to Mu'awiyah in the matter of sarf (currency exchange). Details of the narration: The objection of 'Ubadah (may Allah be pleased with him) to Mu'awiyah (may Allah be pleased with him) in the matter of sarf (currency exchange) is also narrated through another chain, which does not mention 'Ubadah's return to Medina, the conversation between him and 'Umar bin al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him), or 'Umar's order for him to go back to Syria. Reference / Source: Imam Muslim narrated it (1587) via Abu al-Ash'ath al-San'ani from 'Ubadah bin al-Samit. Details of the narration: 'Ubadah's objection to Mu'awiyah in this matter is also narrated briefly through a second route. Reference / Source: It is in Musnad Ahmad 37/ (22724) and al-Nasa'i (6114). Grading: Its narrators are thiqah, except that this narration is munqati' (with a break in the chain). Details of the narration: Likewise, this narration is also reported through a third route. Reference / Source: It is in Musnad Ahmad (22729) and al-Nasa'i (6108) and (6109). Grading: Its narrators are thiqah, but it too is munqati'.
