Ubadah bin al-Walid narrates from Sayyiduna Ubadah bin al-Samit (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said: Ubadah bin al-Samit (may Allah be pleased with him) took part in six military expeditions alongside the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him).
This hadith is sahih (authentic) on the condition of the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim), but they did not record it.

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Grading: (3) There is no harm in its narrators (la ba'sa bihim).
Technical note / Defect ('illah): However, whether 'Ubadah bin al-Walid (the grandson of 'Ubadah bin al-Samit) met his grandfather 'Ubadah bin al-Samit is questionable. For it was al-Walid bin 'Ubadah bin al-Samit who informed his son 'Ubadah bin al-Walid that the latter's grandfather 'Ubadah bin al-Samit died in the year thirty-four (34) AH and was buried in al-Ramlah,
Reference / Source: as reported by Ibn Sa'd in "Tabaqat" 3/ 506 and by Ibn 'Asakir in "Tarikh Dimashq" 26/ 205.
Important point: This proves that 'Ubadah bin al-Walid did not live at the time of his grandfather 'Ubadah bin al-Samit's death.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): What this report states, that 'Ubadah (may Allah be pleased with him) went on six (6) campaigns with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), is a problematic statement, since a number of the experts on the military campaigns (maghazi) say that 'Ubadah took part in all the battles with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him).
Reference / Source: As Ibn Ishaq stated explicitly at the beginning of the biography, and Ibn Sa'd in "Tabaqat" 3/ 506.
Important point: Undoubtedly, the campaigns of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) far exceed this number (six), so the statement of the biographers takes precedence over this "solitary narration" (shadh), which we did not find with anyone other than the author (al-Hakim).
Grading: Most likely the error (wahm) in it comes from "Usamah bin Zayd", who is al-Laythi, since some of his narrations contain munkar reports; and Allah the Exalted knows best.
