Hadith Grading
Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Grading: Its chain is hasan because of Muhammad bin 'Amr bin 'Alqamah and al-Mukhdaji (Abu Rufay').
Technical note / Defect ('illah): Al-Mukhdaji was a constant companion of 'Ubadah bin al-Samit, and both of these narrators are "hasan al-hadith". Ibn Muhayriz is Abd Allah bin Muhayriz.
Reference / Source: Ibn Hibban (1731) narrated it with the chain of Yazid bin Harun, in which there is a discussion about the witr being obligatory and mention of the merit of the five prayers.
Important point: In the narration, 'Ubadah refuted the one who declared the witr obligatory and mentioned Allah's covenant regarding the five prayers.
Reference / Source: Imam al-Tahawi narrated it in "Mushkil al-Athar" (3170) with the chain of Muhammad bin Ishaq from Muhammad bin Yahya bin Habban.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): In Ibn Hibban's (1732) narration of Hushaym bin Bashir, the name "al-Mukhdaji" has dropped out of the chain, while the correct form is to mention him, since all the other students of Yahya bin Sa'id mentioned his name.
Reference / Source: Imam Ahmad (22693, 22720) and al-Nasa'i (318) narrated it via Yahya bin Sa'id al-Ansari, but 'Ubadah's kunyah (Abu al-Walid) is not mentioned in it.
Reference / Source: Ahmad (22752), Ibn Majah (1401) and Ibn Hibban (2417) narrated it via Abd Rabbih bin Sa'id and Muhammad bin Ishaq without the kunyah.
Grading: This narration is in Ahmad (22704) and Abu Dawud (425) with the chain of Abd Allah al-Sunabihi from 'Ubadah, and its chain is sahih.
